10 Steps to Overcome Procrastination

[1]Do you struggle with procrastination?

You’re definitely not alone. For centuries, men and women have dealt with procrastination.

Countless sayings and books have been written to tease, poke at, and create a little humor over the topic.

However, procrastination can be crippling…

It can lead to one’s financial ruin, and has been known to destroy relationships.

Overcoming procrastination is the key to success in life, love, and anything you want to accomplish!

Use this quick guide to accelerate your success [1] and don’t let procrastination steal your dream.

10 Steps to Take Charge of Your Life Now!

To overcome procrastination, you must embrace time management. If you are disorganized and don’t use a fixed schedule, then you give your procrastination demons room to maneuver and lure you in.

Stating something like, “I’ll do that later today,” is the recipe for not getting it done at all. It’s important to note, though, that time management is not the only key to overcoming this frustrating and sometimes crippling behavior.

[1]These 10 steps will help guide you to be productive and accomplish more during each and every day [1].

Step 1: Analyze the tasks at hand

Determine what you have to do. The larger the tasks are in front of you, the more overwhelming they can seem. Can this task be broken down into smaller assignments?

You’ll discover that most can be done in segments.

Cleaning the yard after a long winter can seem like a major job, but if you break it down into cleaning the front yard one day, then the back the next, then it is no longer as intimidating.

Step 2: Set a deadline

You need to begin establishing a deadline for your tasks and stick to it. If you state that you will have the front yard cleaned by tomorrow, then make sure it is done.

Step 3: Find someone to hold you accountable

If you feel that you might still put off doing what you’ve established a deadline for, then find someone to hold you accountable.

[1]When someone is looking over your shoulder like a boss, you can be inspired to stick to your schedule. Make sure you choose someone whose respect you cherish.

Step 4: Seek counseling

Many procrastinators fall into the habit as a way to manage or cope with stress. If you feel that you are putting things off because you’re overwhelmed, it’s a good idea to seek professional counseling.

These sessions can often help you manage your stress, obligations, and responsibilities more efficiently. This will lead you to be more engaged and eager to accomplish your goals or tasks.

Step 5: Prioritize tasks

[1]Organize your tasks into different lists:

1.    Essential tasks

2.    Desirable but not critical tasks

Next, focus on your essential tasks and place them in order of importance. Lastly, place them in order of size (how long they will take to accomplish).

Often it is more effective to start with an assignment that won’t take as long; the sense of accomplishment can often motivate you onto the next task.

Step 6: Revise your language

There are plenty of things tha [1]t we say that lead us into the same stumbles when it comes to procrastination.

“I’ll get to it,” and “I should…” are simple, seemingly harmless phrases that will cause you to begin putting things off.

Be aware of the words that you choose and turn them into concrete language. “I will” and “I choose to” will help you begin working on what is important.

Step 7: Be realistic

If it could take you two hours to do a certain task, don’t set aside one hour. When you try to squeeze too much into one day, you find that you become frustrated and give up.

Step 8: Tackle the one thing you don’t want to do first

Wake up tomorr [1]ow and get working on the one project that you are dreading right away. Once you get it done and out of the way, you’ll feel immensely better.

Step 9: Evaluate your progress weekly

Take some time once a week to determine how you’ve been doing and if there are any adjustments that could be made.

Step 10: Take 15 Minutes at the End of Each Day

Go through your progress for each day, put things away, straighten up, and revise your schedule for tomorrow if needed.

You Can Achieve Greatness!

With these 10 simple steps, you can turn a lack mentality into an abundance attitude that will bring amazing opportunities into your life [1].

One important point to remember is that procrastination can be overcome. There are many famous and accomplished (and self proclaimed) procrastinators who learned how to overcome this self-sabotaging behavior to achieve greatness.

Albert Einstein is said to have put off some research and formula work from time to time. Leonardo DaVinci was often threatened to have his hand cut off before he would finish contracted work. Douglas Adams, a famous novelist relied on his editors and publishers to force him to stay on schedule.

So there is no shame in procrastinating, no matter how it affects your life.

Just like Einstein, DaVinci, Adams and many others, you too can overcome procrastination and self-sabotage and achieve your personal greatness.

If you want to take charge of your life and get more accomplished in your waking hours…

Fully unlock the potential of your life and discover how amazing life can be when you get things done [1].
