So this week I sent out a Facebook survey, (which, by the way, I think is a genius integration on their part) asking which elements of visual communications are most important. The choices were between branding, web design and marketing, and the winner based on your votes was: BRANDING — with 28 votes, marketing 18 votes and web design a mere 6 votes!
It’s so interesting to see the feedback, and what people really think about the importance of visual communication. So, do I agree with the majority? Well part in partial yes, however it all depends on what the ultimate goal of a company is. In all honesty, it was a trick question because, in most cases, one cannot be successful without the other.
You can have an amazing brand, but if your website does not reflect your overall image and is not user friendly and intuitive, then your brand identity and messaging will get lost. On the flip side, your brand and website can be outstanding but if your marketing efforts are shortchanged, no body is going to even see you or know who you are to decide if they want to do business with your company.
The moral of the story is this: business owners who depend on new customers and clients that are near and far reached, need to have a solid brand identity, a website to support that communication and a marketing execution plan to get their attention!
The problem I often experience is people invest money into their brand and website, and don’t have any left over for any type of marketing. Then once they launch they are so disappointed that there has been no change in revenue or ROI.
Marketing is so important to business success, and even more important — all your marketing materials should support your execution campaign and strategy. When everything works in harmony, your odds for growth are much higher.
On another note: I got some great feedback based on the real success of a company from fans on Facebook, saying that the infrastructure of a business is first and foremost the most important element of a company’s success. I couldn’t agree more!
You could look great to the public, but if your internal system is not flowing or being run harmoniously with strong employees, good work ethics, a strong moral system and a good financial structure, then unfortunately, success is going to be a long and hard struggle.
